Wardrobe Diaries:: Sequin Disco

Last night I met a group of my friends at Desiron in Soho for the opening reception of an art exhibit in their D Gallery. I lent a dress to my roomie to for the event and then realized it was subconsciously exactly what I wanted to wear. I rushed home after work for a quick change and remembered that I had a special pair of pants on loan from a little nugget that needed a disco spin about the city...Not to mention it was the perfect spring weather which meant NO JACKET!!!

The More HUE Know...

There is something to be said for a person that knows themselves well. When they are confident and comfortable with who they are, it brings out their best, most creative, vulnerable, real self which is expressed in/through their craft. For Phoebe Philo of Celine, that means a collection that resonates with every woman and reverberates among fashion industry walls. Philo's spring collection is perfection! She took a more than basic color and transformed it into a fashion phenomenon (of sorts). Ladies and Gents can't get enough of it. Take a neutral color and make it animated through fabulously distinct and well constructed silhouettes. The focus then is highlighted in quality and sophistication (ie, the wide leg pants, my absolute favorite...HELLO LOVER!).

I'm not sure what could be sexier than a pair of nude heels. They truly are any girl's best friend, adding miles of length to your legs. Stumbled upon the CL for Philip Lim shoes yesterday and I'm cursing the day Becky left Louboutin to move to London! The stud detail down the middle is killing me. I pine, I burn, I perish! Yesterday I was running an errand with a new friend and was introduced to the black version of the Aldo heel. What a coincidence when I came home browsing the web and landed at the nude version. The silhouette is uber sexy and you can't beat the price.

I am a hot mess when it comes to bags. My purse-onality is to carry the bag that allows me to carry my life around in it like a suitcase. I tend to stick to darker colors because you never know what can happen with a pen in my hand...or even worse what I might accidentally set my bag into. "When I grow up" I imagine carrying something along the lines of the Kate Spade bag for a night out to dinner with the girls or for a date night. The A.P.C. bag is my dream come true...rich supple suede in a generous shape that allows for all my belongings to be cast away to the bottom (it's true with any bag I carry, even when compartments are provided).

I have the hardest time wearing shorts, I've just never been a fan. It seems easier and more convenient to throw on a skirt and call it a day. When I saw these Thakoon shorts though, I thought, that's it. I'm all about the twisted and rouched detail. The length is ideal for days running around the city or for being on set. When I went to the TopShop/Nylon Anniversary party (here) I fell in love with this long lace skirt that is sans lining. I paraded around the store with it in hand and returned it to the rack at the end of the night, knowing I could get the same skirt for free if I brought it to my mother's attention (she's in the process of making me a few in different colors). I loved how sheer the skirt is...a demure silhouette in a feminine, perfect for spring fabric. And I love the look of wearing a pair of nude leggings underneath for a buoyant illusion.

I'm in love with this J.Crew dress. Just a hint of color to keep it from fading into the background. It looks comfortable, easy, and appropriate for many an occasion. Fortunately for me, I don't need an occasion or excuse for this number. I'd wear it on a gorgeous day like today when breakfast hang out, coffee shop work day, and non-profit planning is on the agenda. I'm lusting for the denim/khaki top in the LeFashion image. Such a cool hybrid to incorporate two spot on spring/summer trends. The trend fusion is equally balanced and exalted when yoked with a tonal romper. I'm heading home to Texas in a few weeks, and for some reason I am most DIY productive when I'm there. So on the list of "to-do's::"

*Denim-Khaki Shirt Fusion...Love the look of the denim cuffs

Wardrobe Diaries:: Savvy Shoppers...

Spring has returned! Today was absolutely gorgeous! The delightful weather called for some spring shopping. The day was full of events, shopping, and run-ins with new and old friends. I don't know why I'm still surprised when I run into people I know on the street. Ok, now to the good stuff. We'll start from the end of the night and work backwards.

My fashion cohort and bestie Chinae and I ended the night in Soho at Topshop. Nylon was celebrating the retailers 1 year anniversary with a discount of 20% off. We shopped, had drinks, ran into Roxy, and saw some delicious eye candy. I left empty handed but Chinae checked out with a gorgeous new purse, and Roxy an acid wash denim vest.

Before we headed to Soho, we stopped by Macy's to see the new collection and collaboration by Rachel Roy with singer Estelle. Not going to lie, the store was crazy, you would have thought it was black Friday or something. We stuck around long enough to run into one of my friends from home (Texas) that is an assistant designer for Rachel by Rachel Roy. I snapped a few quick shots of two models as we were leaving.

I love the lining on this cropped trench and how it peeks out of the sleeve. So so so cute!!!!

One of the things I love about the Rachel Roy collection is the splatter paint prints. There is no exception here!!!!

Before dashing from Midtown to Soho I met up with two of my favorite shopping partners, Roxy and Nate, to trek out to Woodside Queens to visit an infamous Salvation Army location. Nate spotted a Burberry trench on our friend that was a thrifted jack pot and we were determined to come out equally as successful. How do you think we did?!?!?!...

Roxy made out with the most goodies today! I'll have to update you with pictures but I believe the final damage was $30 for a long leather trench, blue/black jacket, floral pants, stripe skirt, and I feel like there is something else. Needless to say, Roxy was the winner! And how much do you love her sunglasses?! They are her dad's (Bubba) Georgio Armani from the 80's. My dad was never that cool! :)

Nate didn't do too bad today either. He scored this suitcase for $5 or something ridiculous. Although we didn't find him a trench, folded inside is a new grey blazer that has tan leather elbow patches and wood buttons. It's one of my favorite things and lucky for me I can borrow it! The suitcase was definitely a steal and so necessary for our trip up north we are taking in a few weeks.

I left with a new bag. It was the first thing I saw in the store and only cost $4. I'll post a picture of it tomorrow with my new spring ensemble. It's perfect for a BBQ or picnic!

Angora Attire

We are about to enter into my third New York winter. With two previous snowy seasons under my belt you would think I would be appropriately equipped for the chill. !FALSE! At the slightest hint of a blistering wind I'm reminded how different New York winters are from my most recent stint in Tennessee and life changing from my Texas up bringing. I examined my stored winter wardrobe recently and I have no winter items to show. I have a few thin cashmere sweaters I acquired at a previous job and one and half chunky sweaters I might have snagged from an old roommate. I've always been able to make it through the chill with a closet based on dresses and tights, but this year I'm wanting to change things up a bit. While I fully intend to robe myself in a plethora of tights and leggings, I've invested in some pants that are desperately clamoring for cozy, flocculent, snugly counterparts. I'm not a fan of your typical Old Navy main stream turtle neck knits...they make me claustrophobic and irritate my skin. Ok that might be a bit of an exaggeration, but they do nothing for me. There's no character to them. So I spent a good portion of my day vintage shopping for lush angora vintage sweaters.

I'm a closet case hoarder for over sized cardigans and this is no exception. I love the muted blonde color...especially with the gray boots!

The front detail of this sweater is equally as beautiful. We need to put more structure back into our knits.

I'm for all things bedazzled, bejeweled, sparkly, glittery, ornate! I'm loving the detail at the sleeve cuffs.

By far my favorite that I've found. Supple angora paired with cozy rabbit. YES PLEASE!

My Schizophrenic Must Haves

You'll be able to tell from my current must have obsessions that my style is in fact very schizophrenic. I've tried to streamline my look and pick a side but it's just not going to happen. I literally dress how I feel that day, what I'm doing, who I'll see, and/or what's inspired me that morning.

I'm dying for one of these Christopher Kane for Topshop dresses. I wasn't able to get my hands on any of the ape shirts or dress to save my life so I'm going for a second try at the alligator version. Desperate to wear this with a jean jacket or a bright colored cardigan.

I think this is such a chic, clean look. Loving the mocha caramel color of the jacket and dying for the styling with the satin wide leg pants. Every detail of this look is as close to perfection as I think anyone can get. The pushed up sleeves with the white blouse peeking out, the matching caramel belt, and the cowl neck top with black cami showing just enough. Such an appropriate work meeting ensemble with a new/potential client.

Are my must haves extreme enough for you yet?!? I know I'm tired of repeating this too, but I'm for all things sequin...obviously! This past weekend I purchased a gold and pink sequin dress that I would love to use to recreate this look. Deconstructed tights are an obvious DIY, and I can stud and alter a men's jean jacket. I'd rock this with combat boots again. Wouldn't mind this hair style for a day or two either!

Italian Vogue Features Rihanna

At the beginning of the month I picked up this months issue of Italian Vogue which features Rihanna as the cover girl. As if I didn't love her enough, the spread gave me even more reasons to admire her adventurous and experimental fashion sense. Styled in an array of thigh high sheer tights and leg rearing skirts the performing princess looked, and I can't believe I'm going to say this, fierce!

Everything from the shoot...The clothes, make up, hair, shoes..all of it were the kinds of pieces that I dream about borrowing and fantasize about owning. So many accessory trends are going to be birthed from this shoot. I recently inherited a plethora of feather head pieces from Becky's accessory line, and I'm now inspired to wear them around my bicep a la Riri. I'm already on the waiting list at Topshop for a pair of over the knee black sequin socks, and picked up a matte bubble gum pink lipstick to boot! In complete awe of the spread, Rihanna's style, and her grace to pull it all together. Constantly inspired by this article!
